E.P.E.S consider health and safety key to any successful project. All our teams are highly trained with regular refresher courses to ensure health and safety stay at the front of any installation
or maintenance visit.
Before any site work is carried out we will send our health and safety officer to site to carry out a review of the project, identify any hazards and produce the relevant method and risk assessments for the work required.
We are members of the ENA (Energy Networks Association) and keep abreast of any S.O.P.s (suspension of operation) or DINs ( Dangerous incident notifications) applicable to HV switchgear and associated equipment. Our engineers will not operate any HV switchgear unless maintenance records are available or unless we have carried out maintenance prior to any works to ensure the integrity and safe operation of the equipment.
We have various classes of HV engineers dependent on training, knowledge and experience which include:
- SAP: Senior Authorised Persons (Engineers able to switch HV and issue permits to work)
- AP: Authorised Persons ( Engineers able to switch and work on a system but not issue permit to others)
- NP: Nominated Persons (Engineers with sufficient knowledge & experience of electrical equipment to carry out special duties)
Many of our engineers have carried out training for working in confined spaces at a high level and in hazardous environments. Whatever your site requirements are, we can generally provide the right training documentation to facilitate our engineers’ presence or will train our engineers to cover your requirements for a particular project such as off-shore or on chemical plants.
We also hold HV training courses at our head office which are available to our clients as well as our engineers.
These courses are run by an independent REC consultant and include:
- General HV awareness and substation entry
- Competent Persons
- Authorised Person
- Senior Authorised persons
- High Voltage operational switching
Courses can be tailor made to suit any particular requirement and on completion of any course, training certificates are issued.
